Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."(NIV)

Worship is about who and how we worship

Real worship requires complete commitment of our emotions, intellect, and will.

Hudson Taylor (1832-1905)

A.W. Tozer (1897-1963)

Worship is the missing jewel in the modern church’s crown." - A.W. Tozer

A.T. Pierson (1837-1911)

"He who rushes into the Presence of God, to hasten through a few formal petitions, and then hastens back to outside cares and pursuits, does not tarry long enough to lose the impression of what is without, and get the impression of what is within the secret chamber. He does not take time to fix his mind's gaze on the unseen and eternal. Many a so-called "praying man" has never once really met and seen God in the closet...He who would look downward into his own heart-depths, and see God reflected there, must stay long enough for the stormy soul to get becalmed. Only when God first gives peace is the nature placid enough to become the mirror of heavenly things." - A.T. Pierson

"I wait for you, O LORD" (Psalm 38:15)

what we "hear" in our rush to spend a minute with God is more our own inner voice than it is God responding.

Matthew 6:5-6
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(NIV)

in both the OT and NT prayer is primarily about deepening our relationship with God

Worship is about presenting ourselves to God.

Worship and prayer are primarily things of the heart.

Mark 9:29
This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer." (RSV)

"What is the one thing that is needful in every believer’s walk with Christ?"

Psalm 27:4
4 One thing I ask of Yahweh this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of Yahweh and to seek Him in His temple.

Is Christ central in your life?
